Dynamic Psychotherapy

Dynamic Psychotherapy is a term first used by Harry Stack Sullivan, the great American psychiatrist from last century who was one of the first to treat people in therapy with respect and equality. He stated,

“We are all more simply human than otherwise.”

It is this philosophy that I use in treating each person who comes to me for help. This therapy is based on equality between myself as the therapist and you as the client.

In this process of respect and active working together a great deal of growth can happen. There are many possibilities in therapeutic growth with your willingness and my experience. With good will and humor the therapy is centered on you and tailored to your needs.

Therapy with me is a dynamic, interactive and safe process. Talk about and resolve life issues that cause difficulty. Relieve emotional pain and make life more joyful. Gain perspective and strategies to improve difficult relationships and emotional situations. Understand and work towards recovery from addiction, depression, and trauma.

Live your dreams.
Cope and communicate!
Improve relationships…with yourself and others.
Make the life changes you want.

RECOVERY is a process

Whether from depression, addiction, or trauma , through therapy a person can overcome and learn to manage difficult personal issues such as depression, addiction, and traumatic experiences.

The therapeutic alliance– the relationship between therapist and client– becomes a safe place to explore feelings and experiences and reframe life issues towards strength and competence.

Choosing a therapist

Choosing a therapist is not always easy. Here are my suggestions…

– You feel comfortable in her presence, you feel at ease and can talk to her fairly easily.

– The therapist calls you back in a timely way, usually within the same day.

– She is willing to answer your questions on the phone or in person.

– The therapist has good and firm boundaries, she does not try to be your friend or your date.

– She speaks to you in a respectful manner. Always.

– The therapist is interested in your strengths, abilities, and dreams, not just what difficulties you are having.

– The therapist listens, listens, listens, without judgment or criticism.

– She is interactive and responds to what you are saying and feeling.

**Please note, I am using ‘she’ though your good therapist may be male.
